Initial Steps Toward Healthy Children
1. See Your Doctor After the Sixth Month
Many people get pregnant right away. For others, it may take six months or more. If six months pass with nothing, then it’s time to see a doctor. This is to make sure you don’t have any easily identifiable health issues that could be causing problems.
Make sure your partner also has a physical – after all, not only are you in this together, the cause of not getting pregnant may be either one of you!
2. Know Your Body and Your Cycle
While you are “thinking” fertility, it is also the time to take real notice of your body’s cycles. In a journal, chart the first day of ovulation to your period, note you temperature, and your body’s changes and moods to realize the fluctuations in hormone levels.
With this information, you can know exactly when to be most active sexually … but remember, don’t make it a chore.
For people with irregular cycles you might want to get started with an ovulation kit so you can have more exact tools to tell you and eliminate the guesswork or extra effort.
3. Know All the Possibilities and Avenues For Treatment

Our newborn
If you don’t conceive within the first 6 months (3 months for women over 40), find the possible causes for your infertility.
Keep a log of everything you are and are not doing. This way, when you go to your health specialist, you can together work toward finding out how to proceed.
I would stress trying natural methods, first. Western medicine has for so long kept a choke-hold on our health that all other alternatives are seen to be too “out there.”
If you have a more serious condition such as endometriosis, cysts or polycystic ovary syndrome, there are still natural methods you can try before resorting to surgery, drugs or other invasive treatments.
How Do You Start On Your Road to Fertility and Success?
We ourselves turned to an ebook called The Pregnancy Miracle, compiled by medical researcher and nutritionist Lisa Olson, who went through everything we went through and you are now going through.
She collected data from hundreds of sources to successfully get pregnant naturally, and she gave birth to two healthy children in her 40′s.
It also worked for us, and it could work for you too. You can find out more in our in-depth review of this guide:
Regardless of what sources you research, make sure you know where to look for information and support, because there will be days when only someone who has been where you are now will know the right place to look for answers.
Thanks, and we hope our information will help you succeed in raising a healthy, beautiful family!

Hello, I'm Christian, and after years of struggling with infertility, we got pregnant naturally.
I’ve been with my hubby for 4yrs and we’ve been trying for 2yrs. I’m 35 and he’s 34, and we both have kids from previous marriages, so no problem there. but we had fertility tests done and it shows he has a low sperm count. Why should that be, because he had a child and she’s just over 2, and nothing’s changed with his lifestyle. Is it me? My tests came back good, should we get a second opinion? This is so frustrating and nobody understands, I’m at my wits end. Is there anything to boost his sperm count, and why would it have changed so much?
Sorry to hear, Abby. You’re both still quite young, so I would look at diet issues. There are some known substances that can decrease fertility, such as soy, trans-fats (think lots of donuts) and soft drinks. It may not have affected him in the past, but is now. Folate and zinc are very important for sperm production. Also check for any blockages that could be causing it with medical tests. Anything can happen in 2 years, and hopefully it’s minor and can be corrected. Keep us up to date!
hello, im not a doctor but ive had friend who have struggled to concieve. As i said to them and anyone else in their postion…..stop worrying about getting pregnant and enjoy the motions that get you there. If you have both had children from previous then there shoildnt be a problem……go with the flow and enjoy ‘making’ children. From my advice ‘not to brag’ thet have two very healthy and beautiful children……make the most of baby making xxx
Check to see if there’s anything that’s changed in his diet. For me, I love black licorice, and found out it actually lowers testosterone. Oops!
Hi….My boyfriend and I has been together for 3 years now and we really want a baby….I’m 21 and he is 32….we have been trying for 2yrs now. We consider goin to the doctor but I wants to know if there are any alternatives first
Trecia, I would definitely check with a doctor, first. We did that, and the doctor found nothing physically wrong with us. So then we tried diets, ovulation kits and the like. Once we began tracking and trying other methods (like acupuncture), we got pregnant.
Hi I’m denise.
I have a bad marriage qe planned to have a baby buy nothinh seems to work for us…we been together 6 years been trying for 5 and still no luck …we tried everything u can thinkof and nothing..I don’t know what to do anymore exactly
Hello me & my bf been trying to concieve for 3yrs now we are both 23yrs old I am starting to get really emotinal & starting to stress because everyone else is getting pregnant but us I am starting to doubt myself any help plz?
I’d go see a doctor first, just to rule out anything physical that could be blocking your chances (both you and your partner.) From there, you can then plan ahead to increase your chances.
I hope I get pregnant someday. I did smoke, but managed to stop about a year ago, but I see mothers who smoke wherever I go.
You can definitely have a baby while smoking – the major issue is that the baby will get less oxygen because of carbon monoxide and nicotine. The baby suddenly can only breathe through a narrow straw while the mother smokes. This causes premature birth and lots of health complications.
There’s a lot of other factors that could be preventing you from getting pregnant – if you’ve already had a doctor check to see if anything is physically wrong, you can also try a special fertility diet, acupuncture (I believe that’s how we got pregnant), tracking your ovulation and other methods. Good luck!
I’m 30 yo and HIV+. I had a first pregnancy at 27 but I aborted because I foolishly listened to these stupid doctors about not conceiving while on atripla – it may cause birth defects. Since that abortion I haven’t been able to conceive. That pregnancy was my very first EVER even when I used to try a lot from ages 18-21. I felt so accomplished when the test read BABY but equally felt defeated when I aborted and have not been able to conceive since then. I’m headed to the doctor today to speak with him. I have heavily smoked weed for the past 3 years because I was depressed. I am currently trying to abstain and stop smoking it.
Along with a checkup with your doctor, also check out naturopathic specialists in your area – a good one specializing in pregnancy will also develop a nutrition and meal plan to help balance out your body’s reproductive system (hormones, etc). Definitely stop the weed – it’s not so much the smoking itself, but that you don’t know what other chemicals are in it that could harm a fetus. I wish you all the best!
Hey I’m 22 in my hubsband is 23 I have a child with him already He is now 4yrs old n mi hubsband also have a child of his own way before We meet n We been trying for 2yrs now to have another baby but No luck in I don’t understand Why We can’t have another baby!!
Renee, I would definitely get this checked out. You’re still young, so it could be some new factor such as some undetected hormonal imbalance. Your husband may have had some illness in the past two years that lowered his fertility. Another cause could have been an undiagnosed infection or scaring in the womb when you were giving birth to your first child, and an egg can no longer attach properly. Fortunately, most of this can be treated.
There’s also a secret in the fertility industry that a quarter of all couples seeking expensive fertility treatments already have a child (I read that in Parent’s Magazine), so it’s not that uncommon.
hey,
me and my husband have been trying to have a baby for a year now! this past october we had a missed miscarriage @ almost 13 weeks…which resulted in a d & c. so we waited two cycles started trying a again. last thursday we had two postive preg test then i started bleeding monday went to er and they said there was no evidence of me being preggo at all and my hormones were normal!!! im beyong frustrated!! the er pretty much didnt tell me anything except i have a cyst on the ovary! any suggestions???
Yikes, that is frustrating! We found this message board to help – http://www.soulcysters.net/ – also, if you need to go the medical route, you can remove the cyst via laparoscopy. Of course, surgery should be a last resort – there is a herbal mixture that may work, which includes Vitex and Maca root … talk to a trained naturopathic doctor to see if they can help.
Hey me & my bf been trying to conceive for 2 months now, we are both 24 years old. I am starting to get really emotional & starting to stress out coz all my friends are getting pregnant but us I am starting to doubt myself any help plz? shoud I see a doctor?
Not yet. Two months isn’t a very long time (statistically, fertile couples get pregnant only 20% in month two, and 75% after six months). Try fertility charting first, so you can time things right. You’re only fertile a few days each month. Try having sex within a six day window of ovulation. If nothing happens after six months, then I would check with a doctor. Technically, at your age, you’re not considered “infertile” until you’ve been trying for at least a year. Good luck!
P.S. See if you can find and watch “The Great Sperm Race” from the BBC. It shows how miraculous a baby really is!
Your site has some good information…I like the idea of trying dietary changes before talking to our doctor. Lisa’s ebook is something I will check out for sure.
I had a miscarriage in oct 2011,we started trying again in May 2012 til today we haven’t managed to concive am so fustrated I don’t kno wht to do anymor I want to have a baby so badly and am starting to think that maybe am infertile which is something I can’t bear I do want to go and see a doctor but we can’t afford that since so expensive for us to see a specialist plz help what can I. Do to solve this???
Fikile:
I am so very sorry this is happening to you. May I ask a few questions and perhaps then I can help you a bit more?
1. Do you have basic insurance? Can you ask your doctor/GP to run a series of hormonal tests, including a thyroid test? A thyroid panel is often covered under many basic healthcare plans. An FSH (follicle stimulating hormone) test might also give you some answers.
2. What age are you? The basic rule of thumb is that if you’re under 30, give it 6-9 months of not conceiving before you start to worry. After 30, you need to move a bit quicker (as we learned).
3. Have you tried any natural therapies, such as dietary changes, herbs, etc.? You can try this as an inexpensive option.
Good luck and please continue to ask questions, we are here for you.
